X-Ray Transparent Beryllium Windows

Overview

A high vacuum environment needs to be maintained inside the X-ray tube to ensure that the electron beam generates X-rays when it hits the target. X-Ray Transparent Beryllium Windows can efficiently transmit X-rays while ensuring an effective sealed vacuum, reducing energy loss, improving detection sensitivity and accuracy, and maintaining the normal operation of the equipment.

Advantages

  • Low density and light weight make it easy to carry and use the instrument.
  • Good chemical stability, not easily corroded or oxidized.
  • High strength, able to maintain structural stability under a certain pressure difference.
  • Beryllium can transmit more than 90% of soft X-rays, improving the transmittance of X-rays.
  • Reduced secondary radiation can obtain purer X-ray signals.

Application

  1. X-ray tubes: such as medical X-ray machines, industrial CT machines, and X-ray tubes for non-destructive testing, etc., are mainly installed at the X-ray exit port as an isolation barrier between the vacuum and the external environment, while allowing the generated X-rays to pass through and out.
  2. Spacecraft ray detection equipment: used as a detection window in X-ray telescopes and cosmic ray detectors carried by satellites and space stations, isolating the high vacuum environment of space from the internal components of the detector, while allowing cosmic X-rays and gamma rays to enter.
  3. High-power laser device: used as a vacuum isolation window for the laser light path in laser fusion experiments and industrial laser equipment, allowing the laser beam to penetrate (especially low absorption of ultraviolet and near-infrared lasers).
  4. Electronic equipment: used as an observation window or ray exit window in vacuum coating machines, electron microscopes, electron beam welders, and other equipment, allowing visible light, electron beams, or specific rays to penetrate while maintaining a high vacuum environment inside the equipment.
  5. Medical imaging equipment: In some high-end medical imaging equipment (such as breast X-ray machines and micro-dose CT), beryllium windows are used to reduce the scattering and absorption of X-rays and improve imaging clarity.

Process

The core function of X-Ray Transparent Beryllium Windows is to act as a "window barrier", which allows X-rays to penetrate efficiently and isolates the internal and external environment of the equipment (such as vacuum, inert gas, or air).

①Select high-purity beryllium billets for surface pretreatment to remove surface oxide layers and impurities.

②Depending on the shape and thickness of the beryllium window, different forming methods are selected, such as rolling, stamping, EDM, or laser cutting.

③For special shapes required by customers, CNC precision machining is mainly used.

④To improve the surface finish, mechanical grinding or polishing is required at the end.

⑤After heat treatment, comprehensive performance testing is completed, and packaging and delivery are arranged.
